Abstract: In the past few years, mathematicians in this country have become increasingly interested in finding ways to provide math enrichment experiences for children. Although this is a relatively new trend in the United States, Russian mathematicians have been involved with organizing Math Circles and other math enrichment opportunities for children for many decades. The Mathematical Science Research Institute organized a Math Circle tour to Russia in November 2006 followed by a session on Math Circles in the United States in January 2007. In this discussion, I will share what I have learned about Math Circles and math outreach by attending these events, as an instructor in Bob and Ellen Kaplan's Math Circle program in Boston, and as the founder of the Riverbend Community Math Center in north-central Indiana.
