Letters of Recommendation
Information Page
John Cullinan
One of the most important parts of my job at Bard is to write letters of recommendation. I write letters for roughly 20 students per academic year and it is in everyone's best interest to make this as orderly a process as possible. Therefore, if I agree to write a letter for you, I ask that you please read (and do!) the following.
  • Give as much prior notice as possible (2 weeks at least), and email me the all of the deadlines.

  • If you are not currently enrolled at Bard, then send me an unoffical copy of your transcript. If you are a Bard student I can access your grades through BIP.

  • Many graduate and REU programs have online applications and they will contact me once you have registered me as one of your letter-writers.

  • Other programs want to be emailed directly. Send me an email with all of the email addresses and special instructions, and make sure to include the due dates.

  • Some programs want hard copies of letters. In that case, give me addressed and stamped envelopes along with the due dates at least two weeks before they are due.

  • Finally, if there is anything special you would like me to mention (past REU's, internships, etc.) that I may not be aware of, please indicate so in your initial contact with me.
